Hello Rooney Ranch GT Families -

My name is Jeni Neff and I have volunteered this year to be the GT ambassador for Rooney Ranch. I have a 3rd grader and Kindergartner at Rooney, and have been attempting to navigate the GT world for three years now. The purpose of this letter is to introduce myself and the role of the GT ambassador, and connect with other Rooney GT families.

The Ambassador program is maintained by the Jefferson County Association for Gifted Children (JAGC).  JAGC works in partnership with the Jeffco School District's Gifted & Talented (GT) Department to promote information about the educational and social-emotional needs of GT students. The JAGC Ambassador Program seeks to extend this promotion of information from the district level into individual school buildings.

GT ambassadors are parent volunteers who receive training in how to serve GT students, parents, and staff. Among other goals, GT ambassadors seek to:

  • help organize and support parent involvement in GT children’s education.

  • advocate for GT students and participate in the exchange of information among individual schools, JAGC, and the Jeffco GT Dept.

  • disseminate information regarding GT topics and events

  • provide resources to family members wishing to share both the frustrations and accomplishments of their high ability and twice exceptional students.

  • work with the school's GT liaison (Trista Morrell) and GT resource teacher (Jennifer Mulhern). FYI, Ms. Morrell is a 5th grade teacher at Rooney who volunteers as the GT liaison (because she is awesome). Ms. Mulhern serves as the GT resource teacher for eight other schools in Jeffco in addition to Rooney.

Please email me with your thoughts, questions, concerns, hopes, frustrations, etc. regarding your GT experience and kiddos, so we can see what issues and information we need to address this year. There will also be a GT parent coffee hour on November 30 from 8:30-9:30 where we can meet each other and share information.

Additionally, it would be helpful if you all share your contact info (email) with me, so I can communicate with you directly. Currently, I have to ask Ms. Morrell to forward information to you, which can get tedious.

Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from all of you very soon.

Cheers,

Jeni
